Spring Into Summer

salmon with lemon and seasoning on a wax paper heart

Our days are getting longer, warmer, and sunnier with the Spring season arrival, and our Kitchen is ready to spring into a new season of recipes. Using seasonal produce to inspire your menu is a great way to try new flavors when they are at their freshest and most abundant. Here are a few items that are in full bloom this spring:

Asparagus: A hearty vegetable full of detoxifying nutrients, asparagus is great for feeding your belly’s “good” bacteria. Choose thin, tender spears that are firm and free from wrinkles. Try pairing salmon with grilled or steamed asparagus topped with a drizzle of olive oil, some lemon zest, salt and pepper.

Broccoli: Along with a punch of vitamin C and fiber, broccoli is a  cruciferous vegetable known for its sulfur-containing compounds that may protect against cancer. Broccoli is very sensitive to different cooking methods. Try steaming, roasting, or stir-frying to preserve the most nutrients. Throw in some chopped roasted broccoli to our Alfredo Sauce and serve over delicious pasta (featured in the Adult BYOB Pasta Twist class).

Strawberries: Full of skin-loving vitamins and great for teeth whitening, strawberries are a delicious snack or colorful addition to breakfasts and desserts. Local strawberries will have the most flavor and nutrients, while strawberries that travel from far away are picked before they are ripe and, thus, do not have the same yumminess. Top our Granola Parfait with sliced strawberries or finish your day with fresh strawberries topped with homemade whipped cream!
