Fresh Guacamole Dip

Involving kids in cooking leads to a lifetime of healthy eating habits!

We all know that forming healthy eating habits is challenging, especially for kids. Every day we are faced with choices like, “should I eat these chocolate cookies or have an apple?” Of course, the easy decision is to eat the cookies, but maybe that’s because a plain apple isn’t as enticing… This is why we love guacamole dip – made from “superfood” avocados, it’s high in potassium and fiber and it’s delicious!

At Taste Buds Kitchen, we believe that food is fun. By learning a few cooking techniques, you can open up a whole new world of healthy choices that taste great! We teach this every day in our classes, but you can do it at home as well by involving your kids in cooking and exploring new flavors together.

In this easy Guacamole Dip recipe, you and your kiddo will learn about a variety of fresh veggies. We encourage our little chefs to taste-test each ingredient individually before combining them into the finished product. Then, mix it all together and serve it with homemade tortilla chips, veggie slices, or any other “dipping” snack. Yum!

Enjoy!

  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 1 1/2 medium tomatoes, diced
  • 3 tablespoon diced onions
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped jalapeno (optional)
  • 2 tablespoon finely chopped cilantro
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  • Cut open avocado down the middle, take out pit, and remove outer skin.

  • Add cilantro, olive oil, salt and pepper and stir all ingredients together gently.

  • Chill dip for at least 5 minutes to allow flavors to meld. Enjoy!

  • If using a mortar and pestle for Guacamole: start with cilantro, salt and jalapeño in bottom of mortar, use pestle to smash flavors together. Add in avocados, tomato and onion and season with lime juice and olive oil.
