Summer Cooking Camp FAQ
Are you ready for the BEST SUMMER EVER?
Escape the ordinary and embark on a culinary adventure! We’re happy to share our most frequently asked questions about summer camp which highlight why our camps should be on your summer must-to-list!
1. What age group is ideal for cooking camp?
Whether your child is 4 or 17, Taste Buds Kitchen has a summer camp option for you! All of our programs are divided by age group with age-appropriate activities, tools, games, and instruction. Younger campers will enjoy being entertained by our fun chef instructors while older campers will be encouraged to explore their creativity and perfect their skills in the Kitchen.
“My child came home so excited every day to show us what he cooked and all that he learned!“— Camp mom (age 6)
2. What is a typical day of camp like?
Our camps are half-day camps. Ages 4-8 come in the morning and ages 9-13 come in the afternoon. We also have a Counselor-in-training Program for ages 10+ which runs for the full day.
Each day of camp features a variety of recipes that campers will make from scratch with the help of our expert chef instructors. Cooking, baking, decorating…we do it all!
“I highly recommend this camp. My daughter took a week long camp at Taste Buds Kitchen. The class was well run and my daughter really enjoyed it. She was very proud of her inventions and asked me to sign her up for another week!“— Camp parent (age 12)
3. Is every week the same?
No, we schedule a different theme of camp every week of the summer! From Baking 101 to Great American Bake Off, Chocolate Lovers, All American Road Trip, and more – we have something for everyone ages 4 to 17. If your child is 13-17 years old, be sure they check-out our Advanced Teen Camp designed for teens to learn advanced cooking skills while exploring the many facets of the food world and find their true food identity!
4. Do I have to sign up for the whole week?
Although it is encouraged to join for the full-week, campers in most kitchens may sign up for individual days or a full week. Be sure to add-on your very own apron to your registration for a special take-home gift.
“I was amazed at how much was covered each day and the bakery-quality of the recipes. The kids really loved the instruction and learned SO much. Of course it was a ton of fun, too. I am grateful you could offer this wonderful experience. You camps are fantastic and your instructors are enthusiastic. Great job!!“— Camp mom (ages 9 & 14)
5. What should my child bring?
Just their smiling face and a water bottle with their name it. We provide everything your child will need to have a fantastic experience at cooking camp. Closed-toed shoes and hair pulled back are always recommended.
6. Will my child make friends?
Absolutely! Whether they come solo or with a friend, they’re sure to make NEW friends around the table. Our instruction style encourages teamwork as well as individual expression.
7. What will my child bring home?
We create culinary masterpieces every day – recipes will be emailed to the parent so that they can be re-created at home. Some samples of each day’s recipes will come home with your child so that they can share the wonderful food they made at camp (that’s if they can package some up without eating it!).
8. What safety measures are in place?
We provide age-appropriate activities and tools for all of our budding chefs. Whether it’s an immersion blender or full-size stand mixer, our young chefs are given the opportunity to explore the Kitchen tools that are approved for their age group and under direct supervision of our team of instructors.
“My daughter is 4 and looked forward to going to cooking camp EVERY day this week. She was so excited! And the food was good – plus, it got her to try quinoa. A first! Very pleased and loved that they helped my daughter enjoy cooking so much. She asked if she could do this again next week!“— Camp mom (age 4)
9. Are there allergy-friendly recipes?
Yes! As a policy, all of our Kitchens are nut-free. Many of our recipes are designed to be allergy friendly, i.e. egg-free or dairy-free, but that does not mean that every recipe of each day will be free of those allergens. If your child has a food allergy of concern, call your local Kitchen and they will advise you on the day(s) of camp which will be safe for your child to attend.
